On-premises license server not starting after a Windows update

After a Windows update, the on-premises license server might not automatically start. When this happens, opening localhost:5054 in your browser shows that the service is unavailable.

Fix the issue

Follow these steps to restart the license server:

  1. Enter "localhost:5054" in a browser address bar. If the page is unreachable, continue with the following steps.

  2. Press Windows + R to open Run.

  3. In the Open field, type "services.msc" and select OK.

  4. In the Services window, find the Hololight service.

  5. Stop the service.

  6. Open your Hololight License Server Package folder.

  7. Delete the file "rlm.pw". This file stores the password.

  8. Return to the Services window and restart the Hololight service.

  9. Open localhost:5054 again in a browser.

  10. Sign in with the following credentials:

    Username

    admin

    Password

    admin

After logging in, change the default password in the Reprise License Manager.

Result

After completing these steps, the Hololight license server should be running again and "localhost:5054" should be accessible with an internet browser.
