FreeCAD with Hololight Stream

Objectives

  • Be able to use FreeCAD with Hololight Stream.

FreeCAD is open-source 3D modeling software used for design, simulation, and engineering tasks.

Configure FreeCAD to work with Hololight Stream

1. Install and set up Hololight Stream

  1. Install Hololight Stream.

  2. Open Hololight Stream on your computer.

  3. Select your XR device in the dropdown menu.

  4. Under Home > Connection, note the IP address. You will use this IP address on your XR device to connect.

2. Set up FreeCAD

Install Python dependencies
  1. Open Command Prompt.

  2. Enter:

    cd C:\Program Files\FreeCAD 1.0\bin
  3. Enter:

    python.exe -m pip install pyopenxr PyOpenGL
  4. Wait until the installation finishes.

Install the FreeCAD XR Workbench plugin
  1. Open any web browser.

  2. Go to https://github.com/PhoneDroid/Kwahoo2-Virtual_Reality.

  3. Select Code > Download ZIP.

  4. Right-click the downloaded ZIP file and select Extract all.

  5. Copy the extracted folder.

  6. Go to:

    C:\Program Files\FreeCAD 1.0\Mod
  7. Paste the copied folder here.

Ensure that the plugin’s files are in the root of the folder. The directory should be C:\Program Files\FreeCAD 1.0\Mod\freecad-xr-workbench-main
Start FreeCAD project
  1. Start FreeCAD and open a project.

  2. Go to View > Workbench > XR.

  3. In the top-left corner, select Enable OpenXR viewer.

3. Connect to the application

  1. Open Hololight Stream on your supported XR device.

  2. Enter the IP address that Hololight Stream shows on your computer and select Connect.

You can select Enable mirror to view the XR device’s perspective on your computer.
